After a long time Thala Ajith is back with a rural mass entertainer and this time it is directed by Siva of Siruthai fame. Veeram is said to be about a man who believes in his virtues and consider family is more important than his life.

Tamannaah is playing Ajith’s love interest and it is said that her character is the very strong and in fact it helps the movie’s flow. Santhanam is playing the comic relief and his combination with Siruthai Siva was a big hit.

Story

Vinayagam (Ajith) and his four brothers Vidharth, Bala, Munish and Suhail Chandok, are the enforcers of their village. They have a unique way of dealing with wrongdoers. They first feast them to a sumptuous meal and then break their bones. When asked why they follow this style, their unanimous answer is that the baddies need the strength to bear the brunt of their anger. Vinayagam is not interested in marriage as he feels that he will be forced to change after marriage, as will the girl and that he doesn’t want it. The big bad guy of the village is Pradeep Rawat, who is the prime target of the enforcers. However, the crude ways of Vinayagam and his brothers often land them on the wrong side of justice and it is upto advocate Pichai (Santhanam) to bail them out of these tough corners. Kopperundevi (Tamannaah) is a painter of religious idols, who restores the beauty of temple idols. Vinayagam’s brothers seek her out and bring her to renovate a temple near their house. But why?

After seeing a special incident, the ever resolute Vinayagam is taken in by Kopperundevi’s consideration and begins falling for her. However, her father Nassar is a Gandhian by principle and abhors violence to the core. Will he accept the vigilante Vinayagam as his son-in-law? Meanwhile, what does Pradeep Rawat have planned to take down the 5 brothers who continually poke their noses into his matters? Will Nassar ever give his daughter’s hand in marriage to a man who settles things by violence? What does Thambi Ramaiah do to make things take a turn? What does the arrival of a lot of women folk into Vinayagam’s household herald for the family? Catch Veeram on the big screens to know!

Ajith and Siva dish out a ‘heady’ commercial package for the actor’s fans.

Director Siva and team, have ensured that the movie is not just a showcase of Ajith’s action and heroism but also a good cocktail with healthy comedy and sentiment in good measure.

The dialogues penned by Bharathan carry enough punch to make the fights and exchanges memorable and also lend good emotion to the sentimental scenes.

There are plenty of scenes which stand out, be it Ajith’s daredevilry in the train stunt sequence or the auction scene or bullock-cart ride or when brothers show their mettle to Pradeep Rawat. Ajith sports a simple white shirt-dhoti throughout the movie also a bearded look in particular suits him very well.

Santhanam is a major presence in the first half makes audience laughs and chuckles consistently. He doesn’t spare Ajith’s gray hair too. Thambi Ramaiah comes in the second half and he ends up getting bashed most often, like the quintessential Tamil film comedian.

Tamannah looks ravishing in the first half and the song sequences. Nassar eases through this role while the villains are the loud, roaring, grunting ones that we are used to. Ramesh Khanna has a cameo in the first half and so do Ilavarasu and Mayilsamy.

Ajith’s brothers in the movie are always spotted together and are literally the brothers-in-arms and the perfect sidekicks for Ajith and Santhanam.

The sequences between Ajith’s brothers and Tamannah’s family in the second half become a stretch. Could have been edited to make it a bit more crisp. The comedy in the second half also doesn’t work as well as the first half.

On the whole, Siva and his team have delivered a tried and tested commercial entertainer which banks on Ajith’s screen presence, charisma and entertains for the most part.

Veeram is a treat for Ajith fans

After Billa, Ajith seems to have acquired this all-powerful indestructible image that seems to have struck a chord with the audience, and all his directors seem to be bending over backwards to nurture this image.

Though his dark glasses, black T-shirts and expensive suits have been replaced by a snow-white dhoti and shirt, he still maintains his larger-than-life persona in Veeram and effortlessly destroys the enemy with his power-packed punches and equally powerful dialogues, guaranteed to send his fans into a mad frenzy.

Tamannaah is totally unsuited to this sad, saree-clad boring character and has little to do in the film.

Santhanam lacks his usual spark, but Thambi Ramaiya in the second half provides some laughs.

There are no terrifying villains in the movie either; their sole aim seems to be getting bashed up by Ajith. The action sequences choreographed by Silva, however, do deserve some credit.

The song Nalavannu Solvanga has become quite popular, but otherwise there is nothing remarkable about Devi Sri Prasad’s music in Veeram.

Though there is no denying that the super cool, ultra stylish Ajith can carry off any movie on his broad and powerful shoulders, there is nothing remarkable about Siva’s Veeram.

With an ordinary story line, an average screenplay and characters that are all overshadowed by one man, the film seems like an ode to Ajith and should be dedicated to all his fans.

Veeram is a slow-paced family drama with all the elements of a commercial entertainer.

    For Ajith fans..
Ajith clearly steal the show , the brothers are ok with just Vidharth performance getting out of the group.Tamanna is pleasant , Santhanam is ok too and Thambi Ramayya makes you laugh at parts.Nasser , seen in better avatars recent times , do justice to his role , and Atul Kulkarni , in the few scenes he have , leaves a good impression.

To sum up , Veeram is a typical masala , which lack of pace is covered by Ajith’s screen presence and charisma.

    Watched Veeram n Jilla..

    Veeram –
Positive – Ajiths style, dialogue delivery, Sathamanam comedy, DSP BGM, Stunt.
Negative – story line n choreography could have been much better..

Verdict – Full n full awesome commercial entertainer after a decade from Ajith.. A movie were all the age range of people can enjoy.. A mass treat for Ajith fansz n otherwise too..

    Jilla
Positive – Internal scene, choreography, songs, Vijay slim look, Stunt n a postive climax
Negative – Mohan Lal unwanted dialogues but really not doing anything except climax, first half comedy, lengthy 2nd half, Vijays puch dialogues as usual, Repeating BGM by Imman n guessable story..

Verdict – Personally felt like watching Ajith’s Dheena with story alteration. Jilla is treat for Vijay Fans n one time watchable for others.
